Exploring Family Studies (Grade 9- Open)
This course offers a little of everything that you may take in a future Social Sciences and Humanities course. Topics explored are the basics of nutrition and cooking, how to deal with conflict in your daily life, healthy relationships, how to sew/knit, and family relationships. This is a great course to take to see what future courses you would like to join within this department.
Grade 10 Food and Nutrition (HFN2O)
This course will teach you about the food we eat and how it affects us. You will cook several times throughout this course!
Gr. 11 Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology and Sociology (HSP3C/3U)
We discuss ideas like culture, evolution, how our mind works, and how we interact with the people around us. Why do we do the things that we do? We learn about mental illnesses and serial killers and conduct experiments!
Gr. 11 Parenting (HPC3O)
This course focuses on topics such as communication with children, prenatal development, labor and delivery, and caring for an infant. You get to wear a sympathy belly, take an infant simulator home for the weekend and plan a play day for young children in your class!
Gr. 11 Exploring World Religions (HRT3M)
This course will explore the various early religions, Aboriginal Spirituality, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and New Age. Some fun activities that we do in this class are take part in a smudge ceremony, meditate, do yoga, experiment with religious symbols using henna tattoos as well as build mosques.
Gr. 11 Fashion (HNC3C)
How the clothes we wear affect us, the fashion industry and the production of clothing items are just some of the many elements of this course. Some fun projects we will be sewing in class are mittens, bags, pajamas, pencil cases/make-up bags, headbands, pillow cases, Project Runway and more!
Gr. 12 Fashion (HNB4M)
This course is offered for those who took the grade 11 fashion or for those who are interested in learning how to sew or in pursuing a career in the fashion industry. We explore fashion history and fashion designers as well as complete sewing projects such as bags, skirts/shirts, jewelry making and more!
Gr. 12 Parenting (HPD4C)
This course addresses school-aged children. Topics discussed are developmental disorders, careers working with children and adolescence, and raising healthy children. This class will have the opportunity to plan a play day for children at an elementary school or day camp.
Gr. 12 Challenge and Change (HSB4U)
This course questions institutions/practices that exist today and addresses how to make a difference in society. You get to start changing the world with the "Students of Agents of Change" project. Some recent projects run by students were the clothing drive and the children's Christmas party raising money for the Sick Kids Foundation.

Gr. 12 Families in Canada (HHS4U)
This course studies the life cycle of families (Adolescent, Single, Dating, Marriage, Children, Retirement). Some interesting topics that will be discussed are rites of passage into adulthood, dating, marriage ceremonies and more!
Gr. 12 Personal Life Management (HIP4O)
This course explores how to effectively manage your personal resources (time, food, money, job, housing, relationships.) Some fun class projects are the "Budgeting A Meal" assignment and the "Moving Out" project..
